Sightseeing in Bhutan - Discover the Land of Spiritualism



The Himalayan mountains and hills, rivers and lakes, lush green jungle, or the loving people, their culture, simple yet royal lifestyle, delicacies, festivals –everything in Bhutan contain a touch of peace; serenity is scattered here in simple but rich atmosphere. Spirituality and serenity clearly can be seen in every aspect during Bhutan tourism. The elevated landscape is perfect for different adventure activities including trekking, rock climbing, mountaineering, mountain biking, fishing and river rafting. Along with that there are amazing, jaw-dropping places to visit in Bhutan for sightseeing that are way too awesome to be explained in words.

Thimphu Valley

Thimphu, elevated at a height of 2334 meters, is the capital town of Bhutan and the seat of Bhutan Govt. Considered as a prime Buddhist site; it is one of the most fascinating destinations in the world. This biggest city of Bhutan without a doubt offers extensive number of lavish accommodation, multi-cuisine restaurant, markets and other latest facilities and valleys along the Wang Chhu or Raidak River. Everything in Thimphu meets up and introduces itself as a miniature form of Bhutan. Thimphu has beautiful locations like Drukgyal Dzong, Tashichho Dzong and Gangteng Monastery.

Punakha Valley

The administrative centre of Punakha district is in the town of Punakha. It was once the seat of Bhutan Govt. and capital of Bhutan until 1955. In the history of Bhutan, Punakha has a very prominent part and now it is one of the most visited spots while travelling in Bhutan. Along with being a fertile and beautiful valley with the confluence spot of the rivers Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu, but also because of the luxurious lifestyle preserved for tourists in the fantastic accommodations. Situated at an altitude of 1300 meters, Punakha holds some locations like Pungthang Dewachen Phodrang, which are religiously and historically significant.

Paro Valley

Paro town, having the only international airport of Bhutan, receives numerous visitors each year because of the stunning sightseeing locations accessible from here. Situated at 2195 meters above sea level in the bank of Paro Chhu, Paro is a magnificent place to know about the history and architecure of Bhutan and the monasteries, fortresses or temples scattered around the town help you in that. Sightseeing places in Paro includes Ringpung Dzong, Taktsang Monastery, Kyichu Lakhang etc.  And there is every kind of modern facility for tourists like pleasant accommodation, multi-cuisine restaurant or exquisite market and so on.

Haa Valley
Situated on the banks of Haa Chhu or Haa River, this isolated town is one of the most beautiful areas in the Dragon Kingdom of Bhutan. Haa Valley is outstanding as a Bhutan tourist place, surrounded by mesmerising beauty of mighty peaks of Himalayan Mountains and deep alpine jungle is scattered around the town. The town is capable of keeping the primeval, unspoiled ambience as it is yet untouched by the chaos of modernity. Thus in a peaceful environment, this place offers tranquil scenic beauty and significant locations including Haa Dzong, Kyerchu Temple etc. along with all the modern items in central bazaar, calm and cosy stay with all comfort and restaurants that offers mouth-watering delicacies.

Dochu La Pass

Dochu La is a mountain pass in about 3100 meters altitude, where the three layered 108 chortens or stupas, known as ‘Druk Wangyal Chortens’, in the backdrop of mountains, lush green forest and sky is waiting to woo you. It is a connecting road between Punakha and Thimphu. Along with this type of awe-inspiring view, the surrounding area offers some comfortable accommodation with good food. A festival named as Druk Wangyal Festival is held in the courtyard of the temple, which is also very enjoyable.

Trongsa Valley

Trongsa is among the excellent examples of tourist destinations in Bhutan. It’s a beautiful town in the valley of district of the similar name. Formerly it was known as Tongsa and the first monastery was built in 1543 in this valley. A thorough visit in the town may result into experiencing magnetic sites. There is a monastery named as Chokhor Raptse Dzong, which is a home to about 200 monks. This monastery is situated in a steep ridge and observing it well can take you back to the 16th century. People can find nice accommodations and delicious foods to spend some days in this town.

Chele La Pass

This is one of the most important tourist places in Bhutan and you must not forget to take a trip there during Bhutan tour. This mountain pass is mostly favoured by the trekkers as the thrill of walking or climbing in this region is way beyond explanation, especially in winter, when you can witness frozen river, waterfalls, alpine forest, and snow on the path. A drive of 2 hours or so can take you to this location. The view of Himalayas in the horizon and valley down below from here is just amazing.

Mongar Valley

Similar to the rest of the valleys of Bhutan, Mongar is another exquisite place worth visiting during Bhutan trip. But this village, situated at 1700 meters altitude, offers an eye-soothing view from upside because of the cultivation fields and river flowing zigzag through them. It actually marks the beginning of Eastern Bhutan and is commonly used as a stopping by location between Bumthang and Trashigang. On the way to Mongar, visit Thrumshingla Pass, Gushing Waterfalls, cliffs and drops of hills etc. Mongar Dzong is a place of interest in this valley
